The person I’d like to talk about is one of my former teachers, who taught me how to give an effective public presentation.

Before I met him, I was reasonably good at writing, but speaking in front of a large audience was a completely different story. I tended to speak too quickly, rely heavily on my notes, and sometimes lose eye contact with the audience. He pointed out that a good presentation is not simply about delivering information. It is about guiding the audience through your ideas.

He taught me several practical techniques. For example, he showed me how to organize a talk around three key points, use pauses to emphasize important ideas, and maintain eye contact instead of staring at a script. What really helped was that he recorded my practice sessions and went through them with me afterward. At first, watching myself on video was slightly embarrassing, but it made my weaknesses impossible to ignore.

I really respected him because he was demanding without being discouraging. He never sugar-coated my mistakes, but his criticism was always constructive. Thanks to him, I became much more confident and learned that effective communication is a skill that can actually be trained.
