Mathematical competence supports many practical decisions, from managing household expenses to interpreting financial risks. Nevertheless, I largely disagree that it is more important than communication ability, because numerical knowledge applies to specific tasks, whereas communication shapes cooperation, opportunity, leadership, and problem-solving across every sphere of life. Mathematics helps people compare prices, prepare budgets, and assess loans or investments accurately. It also trains logical thinking and reduces errors. However, even excellent calculations have limited value if a person cannot explain ideas, negotiate responsibilities, resolve conflicts, or persuade others. In workplaces, schools, and families, communication converts knowledge into coordinated action. Moreover, many routine calculations are automated by software, while human interaction still requires judgment, empathy, and clarity. Therefore, mathematics is valuable, but communication is more universally indispensable.
